Frequently Asked Questions

What is it made of?

It is a patented blend of rice, wood, and mineral oil that is USDA 98% bio- preferred. Of course, we can’t give you our exact formula, but it’s our secret sauce and we’re using it to help you with your spillage needs.

Does it work on grease, latex, polymers, and paints? Or just oils and hydrocarbon fluids?

All of the above. It’s not miraculous, but it’s quite amazing if we do say so ourselves. It works on all of these products, and more.

Does it blow around in the wind?
Naturally, it’s all in the application of the product. It is light, however the encapsulating technology clumps up the oil and helps it stay in place once applied. Even better, no respirator needed as our product is extremely safe, even in windy conditions.
How much does it compare to clay in a pound to pound comparison?
Yes, in fact it does and is even approved by the FDA for spills on water as long as they are boomed.
Will it work on crude oil and other liquids high API gravities?
Simply put, yes. Works on crude oil, paint, grease, latex, cooking oil and even waste water coagulate. It’s pretty amazing, we already know, and so do our many existing customers.
Does it remove stains from concrete or absorb oil out of asphalt?
Spill Tackle’s structure will continuously absorb, helping to assist in slight removal of the stain. Although it will not exactly 100% absorb out of asphalt, it does provide for a preventative measure to keep the fluids in place.

How do you dispose of it?
Depending on the level of contamination, state/county rules. Spill Tackle is tested to the federal leach-ate standards for disposal (The California Code of Regulations) and received passing results. In turn, although we are confident our products are absorbing and not releasing fluids, many states want to be 100% aware of what is being disposed of, ( if an oil spills gets benzene in it from a Chinese pipe, then there are different regulations in place.) Each spill and contamination level is different. We have many companies that continue to dispose of their contaminated Spill Tackle in the same way they dispose of clay, realizing large cost savings, from disposing of a product that is much lighter and disposing of a product that is solid and encapsulated rather than one that has free standing liquid in the bottom of it.
